The Bubonic Plague or the Black Death was back in 1347 a long time ago but the Plague is still here today in the world.
The Black Death was caused by the bacteria known as Yersinia pestis, animals caring deadly diseases around. Back in 1300’s life was harsh, open sewers where everywhere and London was dirty. So it was more common for diseases to start and spread. But Humans weren’t the only ones who had to go through the Plague mammals with hair like dogs and cats actually also had to go through plague too.
Its estimated that a whopping one third of Europeans population got whipped out by the Black death. Back then Plague doctors through that their outfit would help them from getting sick, they would put roses or flowers in there mask to make the bad smell disappear but just like everyone else they would end up getting the Plague it might have token longer but in the end the doctors got the plague.
When you got the Plague, doctors would lock you at home and paint a big red cross on your door, then you would never be able to go outside. If only one person in your family got the plague your whole family would be locked up sometimes you wouldn’t even be able to get food or water and that was that you just had to deal with it.
Today people who fall sick will be able to get antibiotics which well help them have a better chance of surviving. But in some countries people are too poor to by medicine or there country cant afford it. If you do catch the Plague then you quickly have to rush to the hospital to get diagnosed and have antibiotics
When you get infected the Bacteria inside you starts getting bigger and bigger. The bacteria attacks all your organs like your lungs, kidneys and your liver. You will start to feel sick and get a headache and feel weak and start vomiting and intense pain in your body. Your fingers, nose and toes will turn black this means that no blood is entering your toes or fingers or nose because the bacteria has infected your blood and your tissue will start dying. You will also start bleeding in your mouth nose or rectum or under your skin. Your lymph nodes will also start to swell up this is how it got the name bubonic plague the lymph nodes are by your neck, groin and under your armpits. Lymph nodes can nearly grow as big as a chicken egg. You will die within a few days.
No one for sure knows how it stopped but one popular myth was that a bakery burnt down in London and set fire to nearly every house. This accident made rats and other animals die who were infected. Sometimes accidents help stop other problems.
But the Plague is still here today but not as many people are getting wiped out for two reasons. One of them is medicine which can help most patients but not the ones that are to close to death. But doctors keep trying to find new ways to treat the bubonic plague. The second reason is that people are a lot stronger these days. Back then they got very little sun light and protein and lived in hard conditions and so their immune system was weak and it was a less chance that they would survive.
The Bubonic Plague could spread in different ways but the main reason was that the fleas either bit the humans and injected them with there infect sliver or the fleas could also give it to any hairy mammal like dogs, cats and rats these animals would most likely spread it on the bacteria onto the humans. But the Bubonic plague came to England in the mid 1300’s by a ships caring French sailors which carried it with them to England and less then a year the rest of United kingdom had the Plague. Rats would be all over London and sometimes would be aggressive against you and bite you and the rat could have infect you with the Bubonic plague.
Yes the plague can still be found in some countries for example like South Africa and Asia. But recently the plague made its way to USA in the city’s like California, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico but so far no one has been infected. The Plague has lasted for Hundreds of years and its still here today. The Plague hasn’t stop because people keep infecting each other with this bad disease.
